Kongregacje

Kongregacje monastyczne cysterskie są bezpośrednimi członkami zakonu, nie zaś pojedyncze klasztory (za zachowaniem art. 8) ani poszczególni mnisi. Dlatego poszczególni mnisi poprzez swój klasztor należą do własnej kongregacji, a poprzez kongregację do zakonu. (Konstytucje Zakonu, art. 7)

Kongregacje monastyczne cysterskie to połączenia wielu niezależnych [sui iuris] klasztorów pod władzą kapituły kongregacji i jej przełożonego, którego tytułuje się prezesem. (Konstytucje Zakonu, art. 15)
